Just wanted to let you know, we did it!
Ciara is back home safe and being looked after very well in hospital.Take a bow each and every one of you that made this happen! The fundraising pages are remaining open and we can never thank you enough for all your donations. At the last count you have raised over a staggering €80,000! This money made it possible for Ciara to return home accompanied by a specialist paramedic team who oversaw Ciara's every medical need on that long, arduous flight home. Not only did they take excellent care of Ciara but also of Ciara's Mum Taimse and her uncle John. To these three fabulous men, we can never thank them enough. It will also ensure Ciara will be able to access the best medical care to make a full recovery.
To all the nursing and medical staff in Thailand, even though they may never read this, a massive thank you. For the care, they gave Ciara under such difficult circumstances, we are forever in your debt. Although Thai hospitals may differ in so many ways from ours here at home, the goal was the same and that goal was more than reached.
To the doctors at home that we have liaised with when planning Ciara's return journey. To Dr.Denis Cotter and Dr.Tom Dennehy in Bantry and the doctors in CUH and beyond, thank you for being here waiting for us.
To everyone at home in Bantry, Dunmanway, West Cork and indeed nationally and internationally, a massive thank you. I know that there are many local fundraising events ongoing, some we are not probably even fully aware of, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
To our families, friends and neighbours, sometimes words aren't enough when it comes to you guys. To everybody that was here for us and at the end of the phone particularly on that Saturday. To every person that has reached out to us with offers of help and support since, thank you sincerely.
To every young person still in Thailand...be so very proud of yourselves. We cannot imagine the difficult and traumatic task you all had on your young shoulders. You showed strength of character beyond your years. You quickly got Ciara safely off that island all while remaining as calm as could be expected. We would like to thank Peggy Ni Shuiblhe who made that first contact home and kept in contact with us throughout the day. To Sarah and Emma who took such wonderful care of Ciara in those first days and nights, thank you girls. Peggy and Emer for joining the girls also at the hospital. The goodbyes were tough but it's only for a short while. We sincerely hope ye try and enjoy the remainder of your trip and we know that's want Ciara wants too.
Ciara is an amazing young woman who has shown such strength of character, far beyond her 20 years. Even though now the road may seem long, we have no doubt she will come through this in time with love and support of her family, friends and doctors. We salute you Ciara, wish you every success in your recovery and can't wait to celebrate properly when the dust settles.
