I’d like to share with you a great opportunity that I have to serve children in Africa. That is why I’m writing…I’d love for you to be a financial partner in this mission with me.
My name is Melissa Angela Mills. I was born in Bad Nauheim, Germany. I lived in Germany until I was twenty years old. At that time, I decided to travel to the United States in search of my Father, whom I had not yet met. After meeting my Dad and several other relatives, I decided to stay in the US for a while. My family in Clare, Michigan helped me find my first job and an apartment in the states.
Approximately one year ago, after a bad break-up, my friend Leyna introduced me to the Giving is Living organization in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This program clothes and feeds the homeless. I have always loved people, all kinds of people, but it was during my volunteering with the homeless that my passion for helping others began to flourish. I learned then, that helping others smile can help you smile again too!
I discovered the International Volunteer HQ on social media. I was intrigued. I followed their page and discovered that I could combine my love for helping others with one of my other true loves – travel! In the five short years that I have been in the United States, I have traveled to the Bahamas, Tennessee, Florida, Virginia, Paris, and back to Germany.
Recently I have been seriously thinking about making the trip to North Africa where I can teach my mother language, help with school projects and provide childcare at local orphanages. I believe this is a step that is necessary for me to make. I am excited for all that I will learn
in the months leading up to the trip, during the trip and after I return home. I am very excited about the possibility of helping so many children.
I currently work an average of sixty hours per week at two jobs, trying to save up enough money to cover my living expenses while I am away. As I prepare for the trip, I want to humbly ask you to consider supporting me financially. The cost of the trip is approximately $5,000, which will cover my stay, flight, vaccinations and Visa (and hopefully a few gifts for the children). Any amount would be greatly appreciated, but if you would be willing to contribute $20, $50, $100, or more, it would really help me to reach my goal! And remember - all donations are tax-deductible.
Thank you for partnering with me and supporting me as I prepare for this adventure! I look forward to letting you know how the trip impacted my life when I return!
